According to the ESRB website, the original Red Dead Redemption has received a new age rating for PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. This strongly suggests that Rockstar Games is preparing to release an updated version of the classic western on modern platforms.
While the publisher has not yet confirmed any details or a release date, the appearance of a new ESRB rating is often seen as one of the key indicators of an imminent launch. It’s worth noting that the remastered version of RDR, which included the Undead Nightmare expansion, was released in 2023 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and arrived on PC a year later. You can read our review of that version here.
In addition, recent reports have suggested that an updated version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is also in development. The game is rumored to be re-released for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S with enhanced visuals, as well as a potential version for Switch 2. Technical experts have already shared their expectations for what the remaster might offer.
Earlier, fans also released a Red Dead Redemption 2 mod that brings Mexico from the original game back into the world of the sequel.
