In early March, a unique Stardew Valley mod brought content from Baldur’s Gate 3 into the game. Recently, it made headlines again when its creators received a DMCA takedown notice, demanding its removal.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke quickly came to the modders' defense, arguing that free mods shouldn’t be treated as commercial projects since they don’t harm Baldur’s Gate 3 sales. If anything, word-of-mouth has only boosted the popularity of both games.
Shortly after, the deleted mod was restored on Nexus Mods. It turned out that Baldur’s Gate rights holder Wizards of the Coast never actually intended to remove it.
The Baldur's Village DMCA takedown was issued mistakenly—we are sorry about that. We are in the process of fixing that now so fans and the Stardew community can continue to enjoy this great mod!
Meanwhile, Larian Studios is preparing Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3, which will introduce new subclasses and crossplay. A release date has yet to be announced.
