Sıra tabanlı oyun türleri, tüm eylemlerin veya savaşlar sırasında gerçekleşen eylemlerin sırayla yapıldığı oyunlardır. Sıra tabanlı stratejilerde genellikle tüm oyun süreci hamlelere bölünürken, rol yapma oyunlarında sadece savaş bileşeni bu şekilde işler. Hamle, zaman açısından sınırlı olmayabilir veya katı zaman çerçeveleri içinde belirlenebilir. Her iki durumda da oyuncuların tüm olası seçenekleri sakin bir şekilde karşılaştırmak ve en iyi hamleyi yapmak için zamanı vardır.
