A turn-based space strategy game about galactic exploration and conquest, in which humanity expands its empire and encounters alien civilizations. The player explores open space, discovers artifacts on abandoned planets and decides how to deal with ten other species, each with its own culture, history and schemes.
Colonies can grow into centers of trade, industry and science, as well as military bases and shipyards. The player commands ships in tactical turn-based battles, customizes their weapons and systems, researches technologies and makes diplomatic decisions that affect the outcome of the campaign. Alongside a classic 4X mode, the game features open-ended story missions; players can also choose one of eight original races or customize their own.
