Planet R-12 is a 2D tactical shooter about a squad of soldiers stranded on a planet inhabited by hostile robots and war machines. The player assembles a team of one to three fighters and battles enemies ranging from small Robo-bugs to mechanical monsters and bosses.
Fighters can be equipped and developed by finding new weapons, upgrading existing ones, and using skills such as freezing enemies, deploying an energy shield, or calling in a support bot. The squad can be controlled in a strategy mode, or the player can take part in combat directly as one of the soldiers. Damaged robots break apart gradually, and defeating them grants soldiers points to replenish their skills; enemies may also leave bonuses behind.
