An economic strategy game about building a transport company in 1850, as growing production and cities increase demand for moving goods, raw materials and passengers. The player lays out routes and builds the infrastructure needed to carry cargo and workers, earn a profit and outpace competitors over the following two centuries.
The game features scenarios set in Europe, the USA and Australia, along with campaigns and open-ended maps. Changing economic conditions affect transportation, while a signalling and guidance system helps manage train traffic. The company can use more than 130 types of vehicles, including trains, monorails, lorries, ships, aeroplanes and helicopters; its routes serve over 60 types of goods and industries across a world containing more than 500 kinds of buildings.
