Over the past two decades, the term RPG has become an umbrella for dozens of subgenres with unique game design and storytelling. Among them are dynamic ARPGs like Diablo and Path of Exile 2, surreal JRPGs such as Final Fantasy and the recent Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, large-scale action RPGs in the spirit of Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls, as well as hybrids like RPG 2.0—a term journalists coined for cinematic blockbusters like the Mass Effect trilogy. However, the progenitor of all these subgenres was and remains the CRPG (Computer Role-Playing Games)—a direction as close as possible to pen-and-paper tabletop games. It was even renamed Classic RPG to emphasize its distinction from modern interpretations.

During Xbox Games Showcase 2025, inXile stüdyosu, detaylı RPG'leriyle tanınan, Clockwork Revolutioniçin yeni bir fragman sundu.
